Each Day a New Beginning: Daily Meditations for Women
Published in Paperback by Hazelden Information Education (01 July, 1996)
Authors: Karen Casey and James Jennings
Average review score:

Very Powerful!
This isn't just for the recovery program. This is a powerful book with truly powerful insight and is so wonderful! This is a book for any women during a crisis, or a friend in need who is have a serious crisis. They will cherish this book and see a new spark of light during the dark times. I did and I thank the friend who gave it to me...

Not Just For 12-Step Recovery Program
This book of "wisdom" is not just for those in the 12-Step Recovery Program. A friend gave me this book during a very rough time in my life and has provided me inspiration, thought and hope. I, too, shall buy this book for my women friends during a life crises (hopefully I won't need to purchase too many!).

A cornerstone for a woman's recovery
This quiet meditation book, has served countless recovering women since innitial printing in 1982. The author, who recieved her Ph.D from the University of Minnesota, was inspired to write the text while working for the Hazelden Treatment Center. She recognized that a woman's recovery can be based on other factors than those that apply to men; and wrote a text for a womens audience. In the book, there is an essay on recovery for each day of the year. These essays are preceded with an appropriate quotation and followed with a suggestion for meditation. I have used this book successfully with many of my clients and highly reccomend it for professional libraries and for the general public.

The Eight Competencies of Relationship Selling: How to Reach the Top 1% in Just 15 Extra Minutes a Day
Published in Hardcover by Leading Authorities Inc. (28 October, 2002)
Authors: Jim Cathcart and Tony Alessandra
Average review score:

Read, then go forth and sell!
There could not be a better time for a sales force to soak in all that Sales GURU Jim Cathcart has to say. Relationships are built in tough economic periods. This book details the basic steps each sales person should follow, and offers sound (not soft) motivation for reaching the top. Every sales rep n our firm has a copy.

A Must Read!
The Eight Competencies of Relationship Selling is one of the best sales books I have had the opportunity to read. Jim Cathcart's 30 years of sales experience really shows through in this book. His solid ideas have really assisted me in fine-tuning my own sales strategies. This is a great read, filled with powerful ideas and short exercises that really allow you to enhance your sales career.

I'm the author
Of course, I'd give myself five stars but here's why: this book is the result of 17 years of experience with my earlier book: Relationship Selling, How to get and keep customers (now in print in English, Japanese, Chinese and Finnish.) I've applied these principles and refined the process over 25 years with 2,000+ clients around the world.
The format of the book is HTML, you can jump directly to the idea you need rather than reading in linear fashion. Take the Sales Readiness Assessment on page 15 then go directly to what you feel you need most right now.
I've filled the book with cartoons, graphs, exhibits, case studies and checklists to make it fun to learn and easy to retain. Enjoy your read and let me know if you need more.

Electric Guitars: The Illustrated Encyclopedia
Published in Hardcover by Thunder Bay Press (September, 2000)
Authors: Tony Bacon, Dave Burrluck, Paul Day, and Michael Wright
Average review score:

This book rocks!
I got this book as a gift and I can't stop looking through it. It has great historical info on the electric guitars and lots of beautiful photos of various models, odd and not so odd. I'm surprised at how many rock legends contributed their axes to be photographed for this publication, the Beatles, and many more are included in this feast for guitar lovers.

I'm impressed, I only wish it was three feet thick...

A good coffee table tome
Given as a gift to my little bro', he seems to enjoy it thouroughly, nice pics, high quality, a good gift for guitar fans.

Eye Candy for the Guitar Lover
This book has the greatest wealth of quality guitar pictures of any "coffee table" guitar book I have yet seen. As a bonus, there is a quite good history of a large number of guitar companies, from obscure to famous. I found that it leaned a little too heavily towards a few top brands (ie: 34 pictures of Fender Stratocasters), but others may find this to be a plus. I would rather have seen more equal space given to brands like Peavey, Yamaha and Ibanez, who have also produced a large variety of great electric guitars. All in all though, a wonderful book.

Elgin: Days Gone by
Published in Hardcover by Crossroads Communications (November, 1992)
Author: E.C. Alft
Average review score:

Looking at life when life was simpler
E. C. Alft writes about Elgin, Illinois with such great clarity and vision that even the most casual reader obtains a salient understanding of the history of this town. While this is a talent, he also writes with such great passion and tenderdess that he makes even the casual reader fall in love with this midwestern river city - and that is an art!

Anyone who ever wanted to "be from a quaint little town" should read this book, because when you are through, you will feel as though you are.

Mr. Alft rocks!
This is a must-read book for all Elginites. City Council should declare Mr. Alft Elgin's "living treasure." Nice pics! Makes you proud be an Elginite.

beautifully written and presented
This book is a "must read" for those interested in the Elgin area or midwest life in general. The author engages the reader in a most interesting walk through the past with important and sometimes humorous views of Elgin. It is obvious that Alft has a great affection for his subject. This was a wonderful book!

The Every Day Gourmet: Quick and Healthy Recipes from Around the World
Published in Paperback by Healing Arts Pr (November, 1998)
Author: Michael Malkoff
Average review score:

Simple and delicious!
I have taken several cooking classes with Michael what I like about both him and his book is that they are both what they appear to be- straightforward and easy to follow! As the name implies, he appreciates that we are all very busy but that does not necessarily mean we must sacrifice good taste- we all have the ability to be an "everyday gourmet"!. None of the recipes require more than 4-5 steps so it great for someone who wants to cook but can't follow complicated directions. I have tried several recipes in his book and they have come out perfectly. I think the best thing about his book is the tips he gives along the way. This book truly teaches you something about the art and history of cooking. The only flaw in the book is that it is paperback and therefore can be hard to keep open while cooking.

It answers the question "What can I cook in thirty minutes?"
The recipes in this book are so easy to follow that anyone can create a tasty, healthy and good looking meal in a matter of minutes. It is great for those people who are so busy that they think they have to "order in" to get a good meal. I recommend this book to everyone.

Fantastic!!!
This was a great cook book. I purchased it at a book signing and have been using it every day since. The recipes are easy and full of flavor. I think anyone would be happy with its recipes. I can't wait for the next one. Michael Malkoff has changed my life.

Every Day Light: Daily Inspirations
Published in Hardcover by Broadman & Holman Publishers (January, 1998)
Authors: Selwyn Hughes and Thomas Kinkade
Average review score:

It helped during a low period of my life.
Mr. Hughes' book is a big help to get closer to God. It allowed me to taylor the daily readings to my needs. It challenged me and helped me to find peace in my life. It gave me a greater understanding of God's word. I can not wait to find more of Mr. Hughes' books.

Insightful, deep devotional study guide.
An excellent devotional with scriptural support that makes one think. Much deeper than the average meditation guide. Index of themes is also most helpful. Highly recommend to those in pursuit of a closer walk with God. (Each devotional takes around 15 minutes.)

Very inspiring.
Every Day Light is inspiring and it gives the reader a opportunity to study the Bible. This devotional not only gives commentary but challenges the reader to give their input about the overall theme.

The beautides study was most helpful. Mr. Hughes presented provoking thoughts on this topic.

I will be looking forward to the next edition.

The Evolution of a State or Recollections of Old Texas Days
Published in Paperback by Univ of Texas Press (May, 1983)
Author: Noah Smithwick
Average review score:

A Rare Personal Account of Early Texas
Noah Smithwick was an old man, blind and near his ninetieth year, when his daughter recorded these words. After his death in 1899, she polished the manuscript and had it published in 1900. He had stayed on in "paradise" Texas from 1827 to 1861, when his opposition to secession took him to California. This book is his story of these "old Texas days." If his memory for facts sometimes fails him, his stories never do.

Eyewitness Account of Early Texas
Noah Smithwick's recollections bring to life the early era of Anglo-Texas history. This book is filled with colorful characters and anecdotes, almost a who's who of people behind the place names of modern Texas. No other account matches this densely-packed narrative as a color commentary of days before - and after - the Alamo. Against the backdrop of history, this book details many personalities and incidents that are unrecorded elsewhere.

The basic start for early anglo Texas research
Old Noah provides a somewhat biased insight into the early days of anglo Texas and the Texas Revolution. Unfortunately, old Noah's memory was somewhat moldy when he set his recollections down, conflicting with other contemporary reports of various issues. Nevertheless, this book is probably the first place to commence research in this field and is required reading for anyone who wishes to understand the attitudes and impressions of the period.

A Field Day
Published in Paperback by iUniverse.com (October, 2000)
Author: Keith L. Anderson
Average review score:

This Non-baseball Fan Loved It
I'm not a big baseball fan but I couldn't put this book down! I like a story that's true to life but has some fun along the way. This book was all of that and more. I laughed, I cried, I learned some lessons and felt good to the core when I was done. What more could you ask for?

A Real Story
Anderson tells it the way it should be and in fact the way it is (and was) when you are a kid. Baseball is the common demoninator that allowed barriers to be crossed. Kids have to be taught to not like people of different races and backgrounds. Left alone Kids will just "enjoy the game". This book is a wonderful lesson for us all. It is a true "American Story". And based on a "real life" experience.

Women will like this story too
While this is most certainly a story about baseball and racism, it is also a warm story. The main character in the story warms a mother's heart. I'll be buying a few of these books for my kids and grandkids.
